Digital accessibility: a legal requirement and an opportunity for your business

From 28 June 2025, digital accessibility becomes mandatory for many companies: what the regulation requires and how to comply in a simple and effective way.

Zaki - Accessibilità 2025

Digital accessibility has become a central topic for Italian companies. With the entry into force of the European Accessibility Act, implemented in Italy through D.Lgs. 82/2022, many private businesses are required to comply to ensure that their websites and digital services can be used by everyone, including people with disabilities. This obligation, which complements the already existing Legge Stanca (Law No. 4/2004) aimed primarily at the Public Administration, extends the focus on accessibility to the private sector as well.

Who must comply by 28 June 2025?

By 28 June 2025, the obligation to comply with accessibility standards will extend to:

  • Private companies with more than 10 employees or an annual turnover exceeding 2 million euros. This includes many small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), particularly those operating in the e-commerce sector or offering digital services to the public.
  • Economic operators providing online services, such as e-commerce platforms, home banking services, streaming services and mobile applications.

It is important to note that micro-enterprises (fewer than 10 employees and an annual turnover below 2 million euros) are currently excluded from this obligation; however, adopting accessibility practices still represents a competitive advantage and a sign of corporate social responsibility.

The importance of web accessibility

Digital accessibility ensures that a website is usable by everyone, including people with visual, hearing, motor or cognitive disabilities. Designing and developing accessible content means enabling anyone, regardless of the device used or their abilities, to navigate, understand and interact with the website. In addition to meeting an ethical and legal requirement, an accessible website improves the user experience, increases search engine visibility, and expands the potential customer base.

The strategic partnership between Zaki and AccessiBit

To support our clients in complying with current regulations and turning this challenge into a growth opportunity, Zaki has entered into a partnership with AccessiBit, one of Italy’s top players in web accessibility services. • Accessibility widget: implementation of an interface that allows users to tailor their browsing experience to their needs, improving the site’s usability.
  • Drafting the Accessibility Statement: support in creating the official document that certifies the website’s compliance status with AGID guidelines, mandatory for companies subject to the regulation.
  • Training and consulting: training sessions for the internal team, designed to raise awareness and provide the skills needed to maintain and improve accessibility over time.
  • Continuous monitoring: the option to activate periodic checks to ensure the website remains compliant, even after updates or content changes.

These services are designed to provide a complete path to accessibility, ensuring not only regulatory compliance but also a significant improvement in user experience and corporate image.
